Post Home of the Giants on dvd in Australia!
This concerns an Australian release only! Make sure that if you're ordering the dvd, that your dvd player can play Region 4 / PAL dvd's.

If you have any questions about the release, you can ask them in the Home of the Giants FAQ thread.

Here's a quick list of where to buy or rent the dvd
**Please do note that I cannot account for the legitimacy/trustworthiness of any of these stores. I'm merely listing them. Please use your own judgement and commonsense when ordering online.**

Online store (sells also to international customers):
Devoteddvd.com.au

Online store (ships only within Australia):
Donedirtcheap.com.au

Regular stores (all located in Australia, check their websites for the addresses):
Magnum.net.au
Videoezy.com.au

You can rent the dvd at the following store (only for Australians):
Bigpondmovies.com
quickflix.com.au

*Edit again, I've gathered more information (edited at January 8th, 2009)*
This is the latest from magnum movies, they do not have an online store, check their website to located the nearest store. They only have stores in Australia.

We DO have Home of the Giants. Arrived in store this week. Stars Hayley Joel Osment.

This was just posted on the Official Haley Joel Osment Message Board by Daniel (webmaster homeofthegiants.com)

Hmm, I guess I was a little too cryptic in my previous post regarding this issue .... LOL.

Let me try again

There is no official news on this at the official Home of the Giants Website because the release of HotG in Australia on DVD was not a deal that is officially endorsed by SymPics International, who are the producers of HotG.

We are all still hoping for and gearing towards a limited theatrical release of HotG in USA, but for the time being, the only way for fans to see HotG is this Australian release on DVD. This DVD release in Australia caught everyone, literally, by surprise. I won't go into all the details, but suffice to say, "it's complicated".

You may all be interested to know that the Australian DVD is NOT a bootleg though, so from a fan's perspective, if your player can play Region 4 DVDs, on a personal note, I say, get this DVD

I hope this clears up some of your confusion. I am still getting clearance to release news of this over at www.homeofthegiants.com ...

*Edit to add so that all the info is in one post (edited at January 6th, 2009)*
DevotedDVD got back to me with the following:
Quote:
This is due for release this week though order on demand.

As this is released by a small supplier we don't list these titles. (i.e. not on ebay, answer to my question if they'll put it up on ebay)

We do accept paypal as a payment through our online store.

This will also be shipped out with Registered mail so traceable for loss of shipment.

Original post below (posted at December 30th, 2008)

Home of the Giants on dvd in Australia?? I've found several websites that state that Home of the Giants will be released through "21st century pictures pty ltd" in Australia on January 7th, 2009! All in all it seems pretty legit. I guess we just have to wait and see. To sum it up, devoteddvd.com.au is the only store selling the dvd, both to Australian and International customers, I have never bought anything from this site so I can't account for it's legitimacy/trustworthiness. Stay tuned because I'm trying to get this confirmed.

As Fair from the official HJO message board rightfully pointed out:
Fair wrote:
Hmmmm... also worth pointing out is that these DVDs (if real) are probably "Region 4", and PAL... for those that might not be region free, or could potentially have PAL / NTSC issues. (Remembering that North America is "Region 1")

The pictures are from dvd.bigpondmovies.com and videoswap.com.

Here are the sites and what they say:

Humm...
This is a little weird.
January 7th is really close and we haven't heard anything before...

Oh and I wonder why Ryan is erased from the middle of the poster...

This news leave me a little perplexed. Does this means Home of the Giants will only be available on dvd and not in theatres ?

Let's hope not. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess. I did find this news on several sites, all saying January 7th. It's indeed weird that we have not heard anything about it. As far as I can find out, the dvd release is only for Australia.

allis wrote:

Hadn't noticed that before. I need more Ryan on this poster!

And I need answers!

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, yes I really want to see Home of the Giants, on the other hand, I would really like to see it in theatre first, that it gets released into theatres, does well in the boxoffice and than gets released on dvd.

Btw, that store devotedtodvd has a 99.7% feedback score on ebay. It seems like a legit store. I'll contact them on January 7th, to inquire if they are really selling it or not.

SUKI: For Australia it is the 7th January 2009. I don't know what the date is for other countries, but it is usually earlier.

This is released on DVD on this date.

I work in a video store, so we get advanced copies of the movies. I am in fact watching it right now...about 5 minutes into it.

So, it certainly looks like it's for real.

Oh and for me it's on 15 euro's (via devoteddvd) that includes shipping&handling. That's just dirt cheap. :w00t:

And the best thing is, I have a private/abandoned movie theater at my internship! Seriously  Just one room though, but still. I'll still be able to see it on the big screen! lol.

Post Re: Home of the Giants on dvd in Australia?
Maybe they do not want to draw so much publicity to it because it's a dvd release before the actual theatrical release. Or it's a trial, to see how much interest there is in hotg. But why release it to dvd and not in theatres? Or maybe they already signed this deal, (just like the deal they have in Canada with VVS Films, not sure of the details of that deal though, just that VVS Films is going to release it on all media in 2009), and expected the movie to be released in theatres in the US first. Remember that they almost signed a theatrical release deal, but than the financial crisis hit and the deal was pulled. Oh, so many questions I have.

Anyways, I've ordered the dvd from Devoteddvd.com, we'll see how things turn out. For me, the important thing at this moment is that I get to see it. :P
