Hmm, I guess I was a little too cryptic in my
previous post regarding this issue .... LOL.
Let me try again
There is no official news on this at the
official Home of the Giants Website because the release of HotG in Australia on DVD was not a deal that is officially endorsed by SymPics International, who are the producers of HotG.
We are all still hoping for and gearing towards a limited theatrical release of HotG in USA, but for the time being, the only way for fans to see HotG is this Australian release on DVD. This DVD release in Australia caught everyone, literally, by surprise. I won't go into all the details, but suffice to say, "it's complicated".
You may all be interested to know that the Australian DVD is NOT a bootleg though, so from a fan's perspective, if your player can play Region 4 DVDs, on a personal note, I say, get this DVD
I hope this clears up some of your confusion. I am still getting clearance to release news of this over at
www.homeofthegiants.com ...
*Edit to add so that all the info is in one post (edited at January 6th, 2009)*DevotedDVD got back to me with the following:

This is due for release this week though order on demand.
As this is released by a small supplier we don't list these titles. (i.e. not on ebay, answer to my question if they'll put it up on ebay)
We do accept paypal as a payment through our online store.
This will also be shipped out with Registered mail so traceable for loss of shipment.
Original post below (posted at December 30th, 2008)Home of the Giants on dvd in Australia?? I've found several websites that state that Home of the Giants will be released through "21st century pictures pty ltd" in
Australia on
January 7th, 2009! All in all it seems pretty legit. I guess we just have to wait and see. To sum it up,
devoteddvd.com.au is the only store selling the dvd, both to Australian and International customers, I have never bought anything from this site so I can't account for it's legitimacy/trustworthiness. Stay tuned because I'm trying to get this confirmed.
As
Fair from
the official HJO message board rightfully pointed out:

Hmmmm... also worth pointing out is that these DVDs (if real) are probably "Region 4", and PAL... for those that might not be region free, or could potentially have PAL / NTSC issues. (Remembering that North America is "Region 1")
The pictures are from
dvd.bigpondmovies.com and
videoswap.com.

Here are the sites and what they say:
The following is from
classification.gov.au (can be compared to the MPAA for the US) Home of the Giants is rated M for Coarse language and violence.
